Beyond Lambertian Shape from Shading

چکیده
Traditional shape from shading methods are based on the Lambertian surface model. Real images often contain specularities which violate this assumption and lead to undesired results. In [1] a method for color subspace based specularity removal has been proposed. This method only works with a good estimate of the source color given as a vector in RGB space. In this project we present two novel methods for estimating the source color from image data alone. One is global optimization based and the other is local neighborhood analysis based. Experimental results show that using our methods we can get accurate estimates of the source color for the color subspaces based specularity removal algorithm and therefore produce images on which traditional shape from shading methods can work.

Shape from Fluorescence
Beyond day glow highlighters and psychedelic black light posters, it has been estimated that fluorescence is a property exhibited by 20% of objects. When a fluorescent material is illuminated with a short wavelength light, it re-emits light at a longer wavelength isotropically in a similar manner as a Lambertian surface reflects light. This hitherto neglected property opens the doors to using f...
متن کاملShape from shading using MRF optimization with Gibbs sampling with quadruplet cliques
This paper extends the MRF formulation approach developed solving the shape from shading problem. Our method extends the Gibbs sampling approach to solve an MRF formulation which characterizes the Shape from Shading (SFS) problem under Lambertian reflectance conditions (the algorithm is extensible to other lighting models). Our method uses a simpler set of energy functions (on point quadruplets...
متن کاملToward Global and Model based Multiview Stereo Methods for Shape and Reflectance Estimation
In this paper, we present a variational method that recovers both the shape and the reflectance of the Lambertian scene using multiple images. Although we consider only Lambertian surfaces in this paper, the proposed method, which is global and completely model based, is the first and unavoidable stage for reaching a shape and reflectance estimation method for non-Lambertian surfaces. Basically...
متن کاملThree-dimensional object shape from shading and contour disparities.
Both non-Lambertian shading, specularities in particular, and occluding contours have ill-matched binocular disparities. For example, the disparities of specularities depend not only on a surface's position but also on its curvature. Shading and contour disparities do in general not specify a point on the surface. I investigated how shading and contours contribute to perceived shape in stereosc...
متن کاملPerspective Shape from Shading with Non-Lambertian Reflectance
In this work, we extend the applicability of perspective Shape from Shading to images incorporating non-Lambertian surfaces. To this end, we derive a new model inspired by the perspective model for Lambertian surfaces recently studied by Prados et al. and the Phong reflection model incorporating ambient, diffuse and specular components. Besides the detailed description of the modeling process, ...
